As a parent or guardian, you have a say on whether your 16 to 18 year old applies to be an apprentice with us.

Rest assured - Staffordshire County Council for the second year running has been highly commended in the West Midlands Apprenticeship Awards for outstanding support to our apprentices.

Over 150 apprentices are currently in post and many have gone onto full time employment with us or other organisations.

We offer a range of apprenticeships throughout the year to suit many interests, from Business Administration and catering to ICT and teaching assistants to name but a few.

We are currently recruiting for Business Administration, Catering assistants and ICT technicians to work in schools and offices across Staffordshire from September 2010. We will soon be recruiting for Children's Workforce and Lab Technician Apprentices.

What are apprenticeships?

Apprentices are employees of the county council and work alongside our staff to learn job-specific skills.

All of our apprentices are allocated to a supportive manager who will ensure that they get the very best from their time.

Normally lasting between 12 and 15 months, placements can start at any time of the year.

Our apprentices usually go to a recognised college on a day – release basis, where they receive training towards working towards nationally recognised qualifications.

Apprenticeships are paid at £2.60 per hour and can be Annual or Term Time.

The key benefits are:
  • Earning a wage
  • Paid holidays
  • Training
  • Learn job specific skills
  • A huge advantage in a competitive job market
  • You don’t pay a penny
